Governor Jerry Brown signed a bill yesterday to make people buying ammunition to have mandatory background checks.

Start buying or reloading

Wait until they start charging you for them. And I wonder what the wait is?

From what I read a couple of months ago it also includes reloading components but without reading all of the new law I am not sure if that got put into this law.

I feel for you folks in the Peoples Republic of California, but sadly it may be pointing the way all the states will end up going as we turn into a more urban than rural country. Just look at the gun laws that were passed in Colorado a couple of years ago and if you would of asked me a year before they were passed I would of said "no way"

That's what happens when the east slope has all the votes. Lived in California for 58 and saw the same thing happen...LA & San Fran area have all the votes.

I'm going to buy a bunch of ammo next week before moon beams law takes affect. I feel sorry for waterfowl and all hunters on this stupid law!

I foresee a booming ammo business along the California border with Nevada and Arizona and perhaps Oregon.

Or is there a provision in the law that you must register ammo that is purchased outside of California?

I'm sure they will have good luck controlling criminals bringing ammunition and firearms into the state. Just like they do with illegal drugs and immigrants.

Don't you know, they have the criminals shaking in their boots with all these new and existing laws that are on the books. That is why they can open up the doors on all the state penitentiaries that are in California and turn all the inmates loose. They have the solution to all crime and everyone is a good boy anymore.

As retired LE, I can tell you that this law will not slow down the criminals one bit unless you count the honest citizens that are now caught up in it. Ammunition by it's very design is consumable. So even if they have a record of the purchase, it will prove nothing in a court. Now the penalty for violating this law is the same for stealing a gun. Both misdemeanors in Ca. Thanks to pinhead Brown, neither will do any time in Jail. Thank you realignment. This law is just more harassment of law abiding people. I am so glad I left that state.

Him vetoing the law that would have made stealing a gun a felony shows you their overall attitude towards gun control. They don't care about criminals having or stealing guns. They are trying to get all the average joes to turn theirs in or just give up gun ownership. They gave up trying to punish criminals for having guns about a decade ago.

It is the liberals new strategy.

Make it as difficult as possible to own a firearm and you will cut down on the people who do own them.

No problem. Get your ammo from out of state. Border checks? No problem. Have a Muslim bring it in, or a Spanish appearing person, they wouldn't dare check them , they'd be accused of being racist or profiling. No offense to Muslims or Spanish heritage, just telling the truth. If California wants to be safer from guns, lock up criminals, treat the mentally ill, and support our law enforcement and military
