I did not see any mule deer in the area we found the antelope. I walked many a mile looking for them. When we located deer in 163 it was the last day of the season. My buddy shot his the last hour of light Saturday. I had forgot the season was just 7 days. I had to watch a nice 5x5 around 20 inches inside spread as season was out that Sunday morning as we broke camp. It seemed they were all in higher elevation where there were trees, rocks and the blue mahogany bush. In area 32 or 33 we saw from 100 to 125 deer a day. I think all the bucks had been shot out. We walked across at least 20 gut piles. They were easy to see as that black and white bird always seemed to be on them. I would turn around and go again tomorrow if given the chance. We have a lot of deer here in Arkansas, but open range hunting is exciting to me. Stalking up on game from a distance undetected is a thrill you don't get to experience here very often. I saw several bucks that were small to decent, but I did not drive 1200 miles one way for an average buck.
Oh I think I saw one whitetail doe on private land in a creek bottom the whole trip. I did see several great white tail bucks driving across Nebraska on the way home.
