Great job. What region?

21 antelope. Y region Deer (163,169,33,32)

My buddy could have taken a lot better antelope buck. He shot the one he did because it had a broken front leg. We were with in 100 yards of a 80" buck the next day. I had seen the buck prior and told him we could get close to it. It must have been a great year for horn growth. I saw several bucks I would guess in the upper 70s to 80" range.

I did not see any mule deer in the area we found the antelope. I walked many a mile looking for them. When we located deer in 163 it was the last day of the season. My buddy shot his the last hour of light Saturday. I had forgot the season was just 7 days. I had to watch a nice 5x5 around 20 inches inside spread as season was out that Sunday morning as we broke camp. It seemed they were all in higher elevation where there were trees, rocks and the blue mahogany bush. In area 32 or 33 we saw from 100 to 125 deer a day. I think all the bucks had been shot out. We walked across at least 20 gut piles. They were easy to see as that black and white bird always seemed to be on them. I would turn around and go again tomorrow if given the chance. We have a lot of deer here in Arkansas, but open range hunting is exciting to me. Stalking up on game from a distance undetected is a thrill you don't get to experience here very often. I saw several bucks that were small to decent, but I did not drive 1200 miles one way for an average buck.
Oh I think I saw one whitetail doe on private land in a creek bottom the whole trip. I did see several great white tail bucks driving across Nebraska on the way home.

All great info. The last 2 years I?ve driven from upstate NY to Wyoming to hunt. Not going to make it this year. The hunting out west is unlike anything else. Just amazing! Again great job out there.

Nice job on your friend shooting the buck with a broken leg. Thats a sportsman.

I killed a spike a few years ago that had a shot off back leg while hunting out of state. It just seemed like the right thing to do.

Most expensive spike deer anyone has ever killed I bet lol

I got the rough score 1.5" short of 80. Still way more than I was expecting.
After hunting out West I now find it hard to sit in a tree stand waiting on a deer for hours. I seem to day dream about when I can get back to chasing antelope.

The West can ruin you...

Great buck and congrats on finding out he was better than expected.

Did you get to that 6 man football game? Kaycee is playing for a state title today at the UW War Memorial Stadium.
