Tough hunt considering the heat and heavy smoke from the nearby forest fires. Deer seemed to be disoriented and confused because of the smoke. Saw very few deer compared to previous years. Spotted this guy in pre-season scouting, but he disappeared until 7:00 PM on the last day of my hunt. Proving once again to never give up as long as there is a sliver of hope. Live weight 215 lbs. making this my heaviest Blacktail to date. Lots of little stickers earned him the nickname (after the famous wrestler) "Gorgeous George" for his unique hairdo. Armament consisted of a blued Encore Frame tuned by SSK, and fitted with a Pachmayer Grip and Bullberry modified rifle forearm. Bullberry 16 7/8" barrel in .35 Whelen Improved with SSK "Fish Gill" Recoil Arrestor topped with a Burris 3 x 9 scope clamped to a Bullberry 6 hole elevated base by four Warne medium steel Maxima rings. First kill for this pistol).
Finally got him scored. Preliminary score is 139 4/8 SCI (later confirmed) which ranks him at #2 among Columbia Blacktails killed with a handgun, and earning him an SCI Gold Medal ranking.View attachment 32967View attachment 32967
