AZ Coues Buck

I took this small buck in Dec 2014 in AZ on my first attempt at hunting Coues deer. He's not a monster by any means but I felt that he had a lot of character. He fell to a 140gn Accubond from a 270WSM at 525 yds. Hunting Coues reminded me a great deal like hunting Blacktail out here on the coast. They love staying in tight to cover and don't seem to expose themselves very much. Contemplating going back and trying again on an OTC archery tag. I understand now why so many hunters get addicted to hunting them!

I am quite pleased with the buck and decided to have him mounted. Dropped it off at Mogollon Taxidermy in Payson on the way home and saw some absolute toads he had completed or was still working on. Some of the boys in AZ are putting some real monster Coues bucks on the ground.

That's a very very good Coues. I know what ya mean about the tight cover and N Cali. My son and I hunted West of shasta a few times and that Manzanita is some crazy cover to hunt in. I may reach out to you as we are trying to add a AZ Coues hunt into our yearly plan.

I will do that once I receive the mount. The taxidermist called me a couple of weeks ago and it is completed. They're building crates at this time to ship mounts, he will call me again with the final tally and ship it when he gets the funds. Some AZ locals told me that Mogollon does top notch work on Coues mounts so I'm anxious to see it too!
