9mm has made great strides the last decade or so. The .40 does not give you much if any advantage over a 9 anymore. Plus 9mm is cheaper and tends to carry more rounds in the mag.
Agreed. Plenty of evidence from FBI and others that 9mm is statistically the similar to .40 or .45 in terminal ballistics. I thought they might go to a .40 just for the perceived increase in performance.

Read the release (same one I read) and my take was it is still not official. But given the current supply of pistols the military uses and almost all being 9mm, probably will end up that way. I am sure they have a ton of ammo already in their inventory. I just would like to see the .45 auto return.
I'd agree with 9mm improvement using modern expanding bullets, that actually work for the 9mm, in the civilian/police market. But not sure I agree with the 9mm making great strides using military ball. If there is some new compliant military bullet that increases terminal performance, then great. I may be all wet, but if the 9mm is kept as the caliber of choice, it is probably due to cost of changing & other reasons not related to lethality with military ammo.
