Considering going for Area 61 in Wyoming. I am a resident but live in the South East part of the state and have only hunted in the NW part of the state once last year. Going to go in with a bow. I know the bears are pretty thick up in the area but does anyone have any experience in that area?

When did you go? Would you go back? Any other comments?

I have experience there but not during archery season... been there many times but only for rifle season in October. I'd definitely go back if the dates didn't conflict with farming. If you're rifle hunting, be there for the opener... lots of big bulls screaming their heads off.

This year in 61 the hunting wasn't that good. It was unseasonably warm, across most all of WY, and the hunting was tough. My friend shot the only bull he saw in 5 days of hunting, and it went 315. He had horses and accessed country far from the roads. Not bad, but not really a great limited entry hunt, either.

Access really isn't too big of an issue. There are plenty of areas you can hunt, and a 300" bull isn't all that difficult. This year was unseasonably warm and dry, and the elk were largely still in the wilderness. Not all, by any means, but he bigger bulls were still inaccessible. Not a bad hunt, but not what it has been in the past.
