Unless you grew up in the area. It's amazing watching an entire herd of elk disappear in a sagebrush draw. I don't even apply for that area anymore since the odds are so low. Maybe I'll start.where no one would think to look.
Looks like the bull I passed on. Bet I might be able to tell you were he was. I spent a month total out there. Ended up with a decent bull. No offense but I don't think thats a 333 bull. Mine was 315. But again it could be. I thought mine was 330 when I pulled the trigger. Nice bull. Awesome experience I had out there the last two years.Unless you grew up in the area. I'm not trying to discredit a nice bull by the way just making that clear. I drew that tag last year and this year. Spent 1 month out there bow hunting and rifle this year. The quality of bulls was much better. We seen well over 250 bulls. The one I shot was the largest I seen besides a bull during archery. I have been all over the unit. What were the measurements of the inside spread and the main beams? Mabye it's the pic. He looks like a 5by5 with a kicker off one side "deduction". Rule of thumb is if you can get 200" out of the main beams and width it's a 350 bull. Hard to get that out of a 5 point regardless of mass. Awesome bull and congrats. The backs on all the bulls out there I seen are weak. I passed a bull identical to this down on the flats yo the east of steamboat. Those elk can travel well over 10 miles in a day though. He was measured at the taxidermist by an official measurer... so unless he was lying to me, he said that he mass sure helped, and if he had better backs he wouldve went 360.... just curious, where do you think we were? draw odds are like 3%... I always put her in for hard to draw areas with bulls so shes atleast successful. thanks everyone
Obviously if you thought your elk was 330 and it ended up being 315 then you don't have the grounds to critique other people's elk. It might be 333, it might not. It's not that difficult to be a little off on each measurement and what you think is a 320 is a 300.Looks like the bull I passed on. Bet I might be able to tell you were he was.
