Hey guys, ATA is coming up and I am curious what the consumer standpoint is this year on new bows. Are you buying a new bow this year or sticking with what you have? Has technology plateaued to the point that it's not worth it to buy new any more? What say you?

I?ve bought a new bow every 5-7 years since 2000. Mathews Q2 in 2000, Bowtech Tribute in 2006 & Mathews z7x in 2012. I owned a Hoyt before the Q2 so it?s pretty obvious I?m not a fanboy for any particular bow.

I?m thinking seriously about shooting all the new bows this winter & buying one but I still haven?t talked myself into yet totally.

I like my z7x so mich I might just save the coin & stick with what I?ve got.

Time will tell. [emoji848]

I still have my original bow and i'd like to buy a new one soon, but for me it's purely a financial issue. Once I do get a new bow, I'd plan on keeping it for 5 years or so.

At the price of new bows and all the accessories that you get to go with them it would be almost like a person buying a new rifle every couple of years, which is never bad.

But it can get expensive.

What do you do with your old bows once you buy a new one? I'm still shooting a bow that I bought 20 years ago.

I'm lefty and have an old PSE a buddy got me from Cabela's (he worked there...found it in the Bargain Cave). I've shot it maybe three times...never hunted with it.

Going to take it to local bow shop and see what they can do / if it's worth keeping. Now that kids are in college (no more HS sports to attend) I would like to get in to bow hunting.

So advice would be appreciated. Daubs

You will likely find that new bows will not only feel better to shoot, they will also be much quieter. Well worth shooting a few new bows if you're thinking about getting into bowhunting seriously.

I consider buying a new bow every year. Then I go to a bow shop and see how much they cost. I still hunt with my 2011 $399 ready to hunt Bear “Charge” and likely will be packing it again next fall. Someday I will step up, I need to find a good hunting spot first. No need to spend a ton of money on a bow to hunt where I’ve been hunting, I didn’t even nock an arrow last fall. Come to think of it I havent since 2015.

I’m sticking with the bow I have. I haven’t needed to upgrade due to I haven’t been able to draw a tag to use it yet. Mathews No Cam.

Nope. I really like my bow. Replacing the limbs due to a big gouge I put in one of them while traversing rough country.

I've owned a few different bow 'makes'. However, technology has not changed enough in the past 3 years or so to justify spending the money. However, I will be investing in a new string.

I bought a used Mathews Z7 about 5 years ago and have been shooting it ever since. I actually bought a second used one for backup and shoot it as well. Just can't pull away from the Z7. It's a fine shooter.

I bought a Mathews Z7 when they came out. It replaced a High Country Sniper that I bought when I was a senior in high school (1991). I don't upgrade very often. My next upgrade may be a crossbow now that they are allowed in my home state. I'm indifferent to weapon as long as I get an opportunity to hunt.

Wow great responses everyone! Mentality of you guys seems to be on par with what people are doing. I would say technology hasn't changed too much in the last 3 years or so. All you guys that have super old bows will be surprised how well the new bows shoot. Save some money and buy a bow thats a year or two old. Personally, it is hard to beat the original Halon. That's what I would go for if I were in the market for an upgrade. Even If I bought it used!

I'm on the fence. I may get one, but being a lefty, I have to wait until January to try most of the new ones.

Well I ended up buying a ?17 Halon6 off AT. I?m selling my z7x to my best friend. It?s crazy that I bought the bow you recommended without knowing it. I just hope I like it. Never shot one but it was basically new & a good deal. It should be here before the weekend. I?m SUPER excited! [emoji16][emoji16][emoji16]

I've been shooting a Bowtech Insanity for the last 5 years. Every year I seem to go to the bow shop to shoot the new models, but I'm so comfortable with the Insanity's draw cycle I can't find something that I like more.
