Are the Vortex Vipers as good as the Zeiss Conquest and Swarovski CL?

I thought the vipers were mediocre at best. The edge clarity is bad, the color is off which makes it harder to spot animals and the brake very easy which can ruin your hunt.

Most people that talk about how good vortex is have never used good glass or they compare it to a old out dated product.

The Vipers are great glass for the money I had thought about upgrading to the razors and after looking through them I couldn't justify an extra 600 bucks. I think you would need to go to something like the SLCs to see much of a difference and I don't think it would be much. Another option might be Maven never herd anything but good about them.

This has been what I notice from folks who really know optics. The birding sites have amazing discussions on different coatings, prism types, lenses, etc... They are truly unbiased and extremely educated when it comes to optics. Many feel Vortex is one of the most overpriced brands out there.

If anyone is looking for a great value in binoculars, this model has some really good reviews and has many positive comparisons to the Viper HD if you do a search. On sale for about half regular price at $175.

I looked through several pair of Maven binoculars at the outdoor show in Cody over the last 2 days. Came away really impressed.

I have two sets of vortex binos. Vipers and Diamondbacks. I use the Diamondbacks for shed hunting and road hunting. They Vipers are 10x42 and are my go to. They spot deer fine. Decent in low light. And good at ling distance. Better than a pair of Zeiss I got rid of. Nowhere near as good as Swaro or MeOpta. But i carey a Razor spotting scope that can put a 1 inch cheater on a muley at 1000 yards .... That's all I need. For the money and the warranty, the viper are a good deal, and as for the breaking. Never had any vortex gear break.

I did comparison / head to head with Vortex vs. Zeiss Conquest...and the Conquest look better to my eyes. They hang around my neck now. No complaints. Just seemed more clear to me, better in lower light, more details.

I suggest ordering a few pairs and putting them through the paces at your house. Then ship back the ones you don?t like / want. I?ve done that with binos and spotting scopes.

i have used Vipers, Razors and Swaro EL. I can not tell a difference. I know someone is going to say i am crazy but I honestly can not. I recently was told by a swaro dealer that everyone has a different amount of optical nerves in their eyes that can cause variations from person to person. I am not a ophthalmologists so I have no clue.

I have had both, its not even close the conqests are far better. In the middle of the day with good sunlight you wont notice a lot of difference. But dusk, dawn, and cloudy overcast days its a whole different animal. They really aren't that much more $$ and worth every bit. The vortex razors are the same class as the conquests. Vortex may have a great warranty, but its the only warranty I have ever had to use in all my optics.

Yeah the whole Maven line is very good IMO. Quality of construction and price point is what's gonna keep them in business for a while. The custom coatings are pretty cool too.
Looks like they are now partnered up with RMEF also as I saw a pair in the Members section of the last Bugle magazine.
