At a recent RMEF banquet, I was forunate to win a raffle for a Browning AB3 in 7 mm. I've hunted all my life but have never owned a 7 mm. I recalled seeing some threads up here such as "best all-around rifle" and plenty of others that have been a great source of info for me. I also found that several of you who I have a great deal of respect for consider it a favorite caliber so I feel particularly lucky. These forums are are a fun and helpful resource. I look forward to setting up the new rifle, figuring out ammo, etc. once it arrives.

Good for you. Last one I was won was a 338 Win Mag, some time ago, but I had little use for it, given what I hunt. Is yours the Rem version? It is a great caliber for sure. If a mag, it does have a bit more HP than my 280's, but in the lower 48, I think you will find a 7mm mag on the short list of best all around calibers.

I assume it's a 7mm mag?
I think you will find the 7mm a superb cailber. Even with factory ammo mine in 7mm mag is very accurate and can really reach out there with authority. If you handload you can load bullets with a very high BC and make it even more effective. I have used it on everything from coyotes to antelope to mule deer and bull elk.

I have two 7MM Rem Mag's and I really like mine. I shoot deer and antelope with them.

I don't hand load, but there is a bunch of different factory ammo out there and you can find a suitable bullet for deer, antelope, elk, etc...congratulations on your good luck!

Thanks guys! It should arrive in a few weeks and it is a 7mm Rem Mag -- a composite in realtree camo. I'm not a handloader so I'm glad there is a good variety of factory ammo available. I have a Bushnell Elite 3200 3-10X40 scope that I won at a "head and horns competition" several years back that I may try out on it.

I, like Plainshunter have two 7mags. I love both and heading to the range next week to dial them in for BC moose! I'm going to a RMEF dinner in April, maybe I'll have three! Enjoy it.

Congratulations on your win. I also shoot a 7mm Browning w/boss and break. I don't reload and only shoot 168gr Berger. That is the best stuff I have found and I have shot about all the ammo in all the weights. RWS 177gr is more accurate but I cannot find any now and it didn't shoot long range anyway. My gun shoot 1/2 with the HSM 168 berger, the bc is 617. IMO it is impossible to beat it even with reloading. Enjoy
