Just checking to see if anyone will be hunting mule deer in ND (that's right there are mule deer in ND). Hope to have a picture ready to post on the site next week.

Good luck to ya. Numbers are way way down due to past winters and oil traffic. Went out earlier this year and saw tons of forks and spikes but only two shooters that were on land I can't get on. I don't know if numbers will ever rebound. Most of the info I've gathered from books indicates that human interaction with muleys is detrimental to the population.

I am heading to 4C next weekend. Have to work this weekend and plan on spending up to 7 days out there. There are some big bucks out there. Yes numbers are down but the it seems as if the quality of good bucks is up. I don't drive roads and plan on hiking into the big stuff. Heck maybe I will get lucky and shoot a good quality buck and a mountain lion. ;) Good luck to you this season and be safe.

Saw a mulie last weekend in SW ND that easily would have been over 170. Probably a 180+ class deer. He had a massive body although his antlers made it look smaller. He was in a coolie with about 10 does. I was mulie doe hunting and got a nice doe at 300 yards with the .300 winnie. First time hunting mulies, what a blast!

Taking my son out tomorrow in 4C. Hopefully this snow and cold will get things moving. He has been out of the country so this will be his first and only day to hunt. Wish us luck!!

I shot a good 4X4 last night. Put on a ton of miles and glassed alot of country. There are decent 4x4 mulie bucks everywhere out there. If he is not picky he should be done by night fall. I did put a stalk on a 180" buck and couldn't close the gap quick enough. He was following a doe and she just kept him moving on. I also saw one other buck that was 180-190" and couldn't get a shot through the cedar trees. I was holding out for a monster but ended up with the one I shot. It was last light and my brother said he was shooter and we looked him over as much as we could and we will just say it is not what I was hoping for, but none the less he is still a good buck. Good luck out there.

Thanks for the responses. I was in 4E; hunting right next to Amidon. I had a doe tag and got her Saturday night. We only saw 3 bucks. I spike, small fork and a decent 4x4. We were only looking for trophy's so we let the 4x4 go; even though it walked about 50 yards away from me. A good friend shot an monster muley right by Medora. I was a little disappointed on how few deer we saw. I hope the oil stays north so it doesn't affect hunting south of the interstate. Good luck everyone!

Well my son and I took off at 5:30 AM and got out west in good time. Son of a gun it was cold out there...-20 at one spot. And they got close to 6" of snow out there. We saw 2 small bucks and 1 really nice 4x4 but they were across a deep gully at 375yard...a bit much for a .243. Saw a few does in another spot and finally came across a decent 4x4 only 80yrds away and he hit him with the first shot. Only went 10yards!! For as low as the deer numbers are here in ND, my family did ok....we took 3 deer during the rifle season in 5 days of hunting.

One of the highlights of the day also was seeing a nice herd of Bighorns. about a dozen in all and 2 of the rams were really sweet!!

That is a good respectable buck for ND, especially after all the hard winters we've had!

Here is the one I tagged last Thursday with the bow. I was helping my brother try to fill his whitetail rifle tag and ran into this buck. I couldn't help myself and had to go after it with the bow. I was incredibly lucky. This was one of those stalks where absolutely everything was in my favor and the buck's senses were completely hindered. I got him with about 10 minutes of legal shooting light left and my brother filled his rifle tag the next morning in the first 15 minutes of legal shooting light with a decent 130ish whitetail. It was a pretty good half hour of legal hunting.

No gratis tag, the bow tags are that color. The bow tags used to be white with red or pinkish writing but must have changed recently. I thought it looked an awful lot like a gratis tag as well when I put it on the buck, but I assure you its not. That is a public land muley.
