Was looking into a combo antelope and mule deer hunt and these are a cpl areas where it looks like that would be possible and was looking for for insight on how the mule deer hunting was in these areas.

The Platte River deer herd has been in decline over many years, they are in the process of having meetings in Saratoga, Laramie, and Cheyenne with the public to discuss how to better manage the herd, so you will have to wait till they decide if they are going to make them draw units, or put point restrictions for bucks. I would try another region if you would really like to get a decent deer.

The reason I was looking at that region was that you can draw it as non-resident and it has decent public access. Really didn't see any other regions that had both. Which regions would you suggest for a non-resident.

I completely understand, deer hunting is better than no deer hunting. There is ton of public land. The only suggestion i would say is to apply for the harder to draw areas, and then apply for this unit as a second choice that way you can build points. There is deer in the region you will just have to hunt hard. If there is any early weather your odds go up, if not the deer tend to stay close to the timber. I am going to one of the meetings this week, so i will send you a pm afterwords.

I hunted these units this year for the first time. We did o.k., nothing great, but saw a few deer at least. I was a bit surprised about the amount of restricted access, especially in 70. A lot of public land in the area has really tough access, but if you do your homework, like always, you will find deer.

I hunted region D south of encampment a few years back, I remember how surprised I was seeing all the antelope where I was hunting deer. There were plenty of times where watching fringe areas of sage and forest/brush/aspen that a nice antelope would come out, then a couple hundred yards away I would start spotting mule deer.
