Well we were right in there with having a hard time finding deer. Opening day we didn't see a thing until late morning when we spotted a nice little buck but buck fever overcame the kid and he missed. What we didn't see was the bigger 4x4 that was hiding next to him and took off running with the smaller one right after he shot. After that, we never saw a deer. The next weekend we we into a different area and found a lot of sign and 11 does but that was it and never saw another deer after that. The last weekend we went back in to where we saw the bucks and sign but only saw one doe and no fresh sign, nothing.
One thing that had me scratching my head was we never really saw any hunting pressure, no shooting outside of people target practicing, nothing. We did not get up high into the Verdi range though so I don't know how much pressure was up there but even as we were waiting at our starting spot one morning, I only saw two atv's riding up into the range before daylight.
So my youngest can draw this tag in a couple of years and not sure if I want to go back and try again or maybe try 7A. What I am going to do is spend more time up there next summer and see if I can figure out where these deer like to live.
