After last years fires and the emergency antlerless hunts last fall.
Anyone have any how the rest of the herds wintered ?
I read that the Idaho fish and game was also doing feedings through out the winter.

You'll find that fires usually don't affect the deer or elk herds in a area and in fact they love them. I have seen both deer and elk move into a burn area while it is still smoldering. And come snow melt they will move into the areas to snatch up all the nice fresh green shoots of plant life that is coming back.

I suggest that you call a area biologist and talk to him about the conditions.

I think the elk did great. There was a video on Idaho F&G website that showed the elk feeding. It was a good video. Ive heard mixed things about deer. Fawns didn't do very well, since the winter was so tough. I don't think it was catastrophic however. Hope that helps.

I live in that zone and am up there as often as possible. elk are doing fantastic and as far as the south side of that zone (wolverine wintering area) the number of fawn deaths is sky high. never have I seen so many dead deer after a winter. good news is, we wont notice it hunting wise for a couple years, as far as mature bucks go.
