Well... We just picked up a rescue dog. This could be interesting. We are a German Shorthair family and were on a rescue list. He is 3 years old and it appears he was just a house dog, little to no outside training. I'll get the basics down but has anyone done any formal training specifically for finding antlers? I'm determined. Any help is appreciated.

Thank you

A great tool I've used is have sheds around the house for the dog to chew on and play with. If he knows they are is play toys he will find them in the field.

I just found this doing a quick search, so there are professionals who train dogs and do seminars out there. I think it is a pretty natural thing for dogs to do, especially a working dog like a German Shorthair. From other kinds of training, I think Ikeepitcold has the right idea. Just have them around to play with and reward them for bringing it back to you. Mine prefers to bring me back dead gophers and the occasional rabbit, but I haven't worked with her at all. She is just as proud as can be when she drops that stinking mess at my feet.

Jeremy's system posted above is a good one. He also has some good videos on YouTube.
