We are planning a hunt out of Red Lodge this fall. Main focus is mule deer and we have access to some good private land in 575.
Now, as a second option I am considering whether to apply for an antelope tag in that area too. This would mean units 512 or 514. From my research to date it seems there is some Block Management land that should have antelope and also harvest rates have been pretty good in recent years. However, number of tags is relatively low and I don't think of the area as great antelope country. I know we can get to better antelope units farther away but do not want to drive for hours and get distracted from the deer hunt.
Does anyone have experience to share from these two units? Is it worthwhile, and if so, which one would you think is a better bet? Trophy size is not important, more looking for a good time with some friends and a decent chance at an antelope. Would also be willing to pay a trespass fee if that helps. Any thoughts?
