Starting to look at what tags I can draw that have an early season start and 76-2 looks doable but it comes with restrictions. Anybody have experience in this area or unit? My questions are:
- does the higher elevation in the southern part of the unit, S of Beaver Creek Rd, mean potential for less animals down there? Looks to be an increase of roughly 2-3k feet. Limited access but I think I counted 9 pieces of public.
- how is the winter going near thermopolis?
- what's with the super early start? Seems to indicate a depredation thing based on the restrictions but the S of Beaver Rd thing makes me think maybe not?

It is a depredation thing. Most of the public land you won't find goats on. Also the HMA is for antlerless elk only so you can scratch that off the list. If your looking for an early tag depending on points I would look at 80 or 50 muzzy season

There is a reason they created the type 2 tag. Not a lot of huntable antelope land. They are trying to encourage the take of antelope on private land, so if you have access to private it might be a decent tag to have, but not if you are hunting public ground.
