Antelope mount regret question

A few years back I got an antelope with my bow in Wyoming and thought long and hard about getting it mounted but decided not to. Of course now I'm kicking myself in the rear after seeing some of these mounts. It wasn't big by any means but it was my first western kill. Might be a silly question but, I am curious what your thoughts are and if it's possible to still do a "replica" even without the cape.

Yep, if you have the horns it's an easy fix. Antelope capes are pretty easy and cheap to come by. I think if you asked around you'd find a lot of folks like UH that would give you a cape if you cover shipping cost. Good luck, they sure make a pretty mount!

There are usually quite a few capes on Ebay over the year. Right now there is one for $225 if your taxidermist can't find one.

Like UH said. If I can draw a tag, I'd let you have my cape (unless it's a monster).

If you can not find one now, wait till fall and you should have no trouble if you do not find one let me know if I do not have one I can get you one for little or nothing.

I'm pretty sure your best option is to hunt antelope again this year in Wyoming or Montana n use that cape for your mount!!

I cannot believe you guys will not give me your monster capes! Thank you all for your feedback I somewhat assumed I would be OK since I do have the horns. I think I'll wait until fall and explore a little further. My best bet would probably to identify what taxidermist and then go from there. Think I would rather have someone in Wyoming do the mount rather than someone in Florida. Who knows, maybe I will get the opportunity to get back out to Wyoming! I would just get one bigger and mount that!

I don't know about eliminating a Florida taxidermist for the mount. I am sure that they mount white tail deer and do a great job. A pronghorn wouldn't be that much more difficult and I am sure that they do them well.

Heck, I brought all my trophies home from Africa and am having a taxidermist in Colorado do them.

Very true and just because they are in WY doesnt make them a good pronghorn taxidermist.

Dennis Bragg is in FL, I see pics of his work all the time and he produces a nice mount.

As far as capes go, it would be best to get one from the taxidermist that is going to do the work. Shipping a green (raw) cape can be problematic if the shipper doesnt know what they are doing. It is also important to know what type if pose you are going to do so the cape will fit. For example, a ped mount requires more cape. Lots of other things to consider but let your taxidermist worry about them. I have mounted a few pronghorn over the years here in TN, some capes made it back home in great condition while others were a pain in the butt.

There are also a few commercial tanneries that have fully tanned capes for sale after season. Thats another option as the more reputable ones provide detailed pics of the product.

One thing I would recommend, if you have pictures, send them to the taxi. Antelope have a wide variation in color and it gives him a chance to get as close to the original as possible.

Bennett's Artworks in Laramie, Wy would do a remarkable job, he also may have a cape. Like everyone said , this fall you could probably find one pretty easy. For those of us who hunt antelope every year, a cape is easy to come by. Post up again this fall. You really shouldn't have to pay for one.
