Antelope Bow Setup?

Going to be chasing some goats this fall with the bow.

I was prepared to shoot 50yds on my elk hunts.

Any advice from antelope bow hunters out there?

I plan to probably mostly be decoying and stalking, perhaps water holes if I get the chance but not certain about that yet.


I'm considering getting a new bow sight, I have a 4 pin right now.

not looking to completely change my set up, even that much, but definitely want to be prepared to have a successful DIY antelope bow hunt in AZ unit 10.

Practice extreme ranges. I like to shoot 100+ yards in practice. This makes my personal limit of 60 yards on game much easier for me. I know a couple guys that actually practice to 120 yards and limit themselves to 80 yards. Also spend time practicing with a side wind at longer ranges.

I have taken three antelope from a blind- all inside of 30 yards. I have only taken one while stalking and that shot was 56 yards. If you have a chance at a water hole set, I recommend it. Water holes usually produce more high percentage opportunities. I use a 5 pin spot hog for hunting. For long range I recommend using very small pins so they don't obscure your target.

On a side note I really like expandable broadheads for antelope. IMO they don't drift as bad in the wind but it may all be in my head?

I do shoot the rage broadhead 2 blade, in part for that reason. They seem to fly much closer to a field point than my old muzzys did.

Practice 60+ yards routinely. Be able to accurately guess yardage. I would think about getting a 4 pin slider sight, like a tommy, boss or Hogg father. Or a black gold sight, like an ascent.

You should be confident with 60 yard shots and shooting from a squatting or kneeling position. It's a different feel shooting from a smaller profile. I personally would go with a 4 pin sight, but that could depend on the bow setup you have.

Good advice here. I would recommend using a lighter arrow for a flatter trajectory. I use Victory Vaps, a micro diameter shaft to buck the wind a little better as well.

Definately practice to 100yds.. And a lighter arrow set up. Last season I shot the ulmer edge and a 405grn xt hunter in a 300 spine. Shoots like a dart, plus you can turn around and go right to the elk season with the same set up

Check out the CBE tek hybrid also. I can get 130 yds out of mine. Though I killed my goat @24 yds.. Shot once @96 and another @ 124.. In antelope country those distances, especially in AZ are normal. Unit 10 good luck sitting water this yr
