It says that he might get the head back but it sounds like the state will keep the antlers.

"Longgood could not be reached for comment Thursday. He was required by the court to forfeit the head and antlers from the deer, though the head may be returned."

This sounds as if the head and antlers are separated.

Sometimes when a reporter writes the story he will have no idea of what is really going on.

A Mule Deer Foundation board member and area Rancher/Outfitter? Some higher standard he sets. A slap on the wrist penalty as well, IMO.

Pretty sad deal. Sounds like to me he was only involved in the Mule Deer Foundation as a way to increase his outfitting business. He should be banned from hunting for life!

Thanks for posting this, I hate when dudes poach and wish they would restrict hunting privileges even more than they do.

What a p.o.s! Thanks for sharing. I'm glad he was caught but extremely disappointed in the punishment.

I think we should be pushing for significantly stiffer penalties in cases like this and Nate.

If a wildlife crime occurs, it is my belief that the judicial system should pick a jury of outdoor/hunting/conservation minded people, and let them decide the punishment. I guarantee you that the punishment would be a lot stiffer. This is a slap in the face to those of us that treat hunting ethically, and with the respect that our sport, and the animals, deserve. Damn shame.
