Ya know...I really like this magazine. They do tons of great articles on living your life to the fullest and being outdoors while doing it, but these types of articles peave me. I feel like when you personalize a wild animal to this level the general public no longer sees it as just that. No matching life chronicle for the cow elk that it killed.

Is this a subliminal shot at law-abiding hunters or was I just in a bad mood today when I read this? Either way it kind of hit a nerve.

Rant over

This wolf given the chance would have killed, ate, and pooped this writer out without ever shedding a tear about it.

Thought it was interesting, didn't see any anti hunting angle. They seemed to give a realistic perspective of death.

To the OP, did you feel the same way about Brutus the elk as he had a lot of fans as well.

I say congratulations to the hunter, whoever he/she is. Sounds like they legally killed a good mature wolf. Well done!

Our biggest challenge in regard to wolves is how the general public now has something that looks like a wolf living in their home. That has in turn helped the other side of the argument turn this into ruthless hunters killing animals that are defenseless.

I read the whole story and wondered what the story would have been if the cow elk had a collar and she knew her past or what the past of the bison might have been. I also wonder what the past of the competing pack may have been and why there were no females in that pack. I read about 4 different animals being killed but something tells me that most will see that the wanton slaughter was done by the human.

Some folks think that meat from the grocery store did not every have live blood in it. No animals were harmed in the making of this meat!

They also think that deer will cross roads at a deer crossing sign.

They will equate a rat with a dog with a boy.

The pack left the safety of the park. Oops! Shoulda put a sign up for them to know.

Luckily plenty in those communities are ok with hunting, open/interested in it, and/or shooting.
Plenty are not, but I've met many who were interested.

I have a hippy buddy, totally granola, who has started hunting elk for meat...

I think we hunters really need to start educating the non's and anti's that "trophy hunting" is "meat hunting"!
ie., even if you're hunting a big bull elk 6x6, when one finally takes that "trophy" they're going to eat it!
