I'd guess 1000 lbs or so. Huge for a spring bear, who knows what it would go in the fall after a big salmon run!Holy smokes, that thing is huge!!!
Any ideas on the weight of something that size?
Oh, that makes me want to go bear hunting! Makes me wonder if I'm insane to dream about taking one with a bow.
I remember when I was a kid back in the early 50's, my Dad took me to an outdoor show. Fred Bear was there showing a movie about his hunting in Alaska. He shot a huge Polar Bear with one of his recurve bows. He wrapped up in a seal skin and laid on the ice so the bear would get close enough for a shot. Talk about huevos.................... Yes he had someone as backup with a rifle, but man that was something. they had it all on film.Dave, I know several guys who have taken them with a bow. One guy while all by himself...no backup rifle. They have more nerve than me, that's for sure!
Some amazing opportunities for sure in AK. Really like seeing your pictures and hearing the stories. I'm thinking I'd be scared as heck, but fine with a big gun alone? But am pretty sure I'd be wanting help after the kill. When I saw bear tracks on the Pennisula my baseball hat would not cover, over my earlier tracks, gave me a whole new perspective. Those Brownies are just huge. The deep claw marks oitside on the cabin we sheltered in only added to the perspective...I had a friend that recently took another polar bear with a bow. He's the same that took the brown bear solo. I'd take one on alone as long as I have my .375h&h.
