We will be headed out to region h in Wyoming for the opener, planning on about 6-7 days. We are packing in probably 3-4 miles, since we didn't get out to scout we are planning to get out a couple days early to look around. The question is, do you expert muley hunters think 2 days scouting 4 days hunting or more scouting and less hunting or the other way around?
I realize we need to leave enough time for hunting, but I figured we could find some deer hopefully for the opener. So the scouting could be as important??
Thanks for any advice!

If I was going that far from home and only had that amount of time to spend on that trip, it would be all hunting and not scouting when you can't shoot what you see when the season isn't open! I'd walk in the morning before the opener, set up camp, and then scout the rest of that day and have the rest of the trip to shoot what I see.

Thanks for your input. Might be able to squeeze another day in, probably leave the 12th get in on the13th, and have the 14th to locate some deer. Hopefully we can hunt for 6 days.

I made the same trip in 2011, but did my scouting the year before. We were only a couple miles off the road, but didn't see anyone else for the 7 days we were on top. We would have gone 3 for 3, but because of missed shots, one of the crew came back empty handed. I would be in H again this year, but I tried for G with 2 points and paying the special rate. I didn't draw, and it's killing me.
I agree with the other posts, if you don't have the time to check out a whole new area, and start all over from scratch, then use your time for hunting. We made our hike in on the day before season, did some scouting, and were shooting at first light on the opener. Be in shape lads or you will pay for it.
I see you are from Minn. Send me a PM, and I can give you some more specific info.
