I was looking at the calender and time is flying by!! Right at 4 months before we hit the road again. It seems the older I get the faster things creep up on you. So whats everyone's plans for this up coming hunting season? Are there any changes to your gear or plans?
I really haven't made a bunch of changes for this upcoming season. I did a lot of gear upgrades before last season but I did upgrade my sleeping bag to a Marmot Plasma this year as my older Marmot is right at 18 years old now. I did loose my Headlamp during Turkey season this spring so had to get another. I ended up getting red and a white LED Zebralights. Still shooting the same bow and arrow setup as the past few years. After looking at all my last years gear on the floor like I do every year, I do believe I will leave a few things back at the truck when packing in this year.
I have been working out harder this year than I did the past few years. Also have been doing more full pack hikes than last year this time. Thanks to the Operation Jan 2014 and working out more this year I can definitely tell a big difference.
No real big changes in the hunting plans from last year. I did put in with a new hunting partner and drew a Missouri Breaks Archery tag this year. I am torn between trying the breaks or Hunting the general area I always hunt. We left some nice bulls in That general area and it has always been great to me in the past. I really know and like this general area and it is difficult to give it a pass for a year. I have hunted the Breaks Quite a few times in the past but don't know if I want to deal with all the hunters there these days. I will have to do some soul searching before I make that decision.
Speaking of hunting partners I will be bringing another first time Elk hunter with me this year. I do look forward to taking first time Elk hunters with me. I do get a lot of satisfaction putting someone new on Elk and them having a chance at taking their first. Its almost as good as touching off that shot yourself. Hopefully Danny will be back hunting with me next season. This season He will be antelope hunting in Wyoming.
Post up your thoughts about this upcoming season it will be here before you know it!! Mark
