I was looking at the calender and time is flying by!! Right at 4 months before we hit the road again. It seems the older I get the faster things creep up on you. So whats everyone's plans for this up coming hunting season? Are there any changes to your gear or plans?
I really haven't made a bunch of changes for this upcoming season. I did a lot of gear upgrades before last season but I did upgrade my sleeping bag to a Marmot Plasma this year as my older Marmot is right at 18 years old now. I did loose my Headlamp during Turkey season this spring so had to get another. I ended up getting red and a white LED Zebralights. Still shooting the same bow and arrow setup as the past few years. After looking at all my last years gear on the floor like I do every year, I do believe I will leave a few things back at the truck when packing in this year.
I have been working out harder this year than I did the past few years. Also have been doing more full pack hikes than last year this time. Thanks to the Operation Jan 2014 and working out more this year I can definitely tell a big difference.
No real big changes in the hunting plans from last year. I did put in with a new hunting partner and drew a Missouri Breaks Archery tag this year. I am torn between trying the breaks or Hunting the general area I always hunt. We left some nice bulls in That general area and it has always been great to me in the past. I really know and like this general area and it is difficult to give it a pass for a year. I have hunted the Breaks Quite a few times in the past but don't know if I want to deal with all the hunters there these days. I will have to do some soul searching before I make that decision.
Speaking of hunting partners I will be bringing another first time Elk hunter with me this year. I do look forward to taking first time Elk hunters with me. I do get a lot of satisfaction putting someone new on Elk and them having a chance at taking their first. Its almost as good as touching off that shot yourself. Hopefully Danny will be back hunting with me next season. This season He will be antelope hunting in Wyoming.
Post up your thoughts about this upcoming season it will be here before you know it!! Mark

Mark,
The Breaks sounds great, but the area we hunted last year has always been good to you and it's hard to change when it the old works. But, sometimes a change of scenery is good to.
I'm not the elk hunter as you and about everyone else on here, but when you know every wallow, trail, and elk routine, I would stick with what you know. But that's just my opinion....although you didn't ask!;)

Thanks for reminding me about buying a new headlamp. I managed to lose it last year up in MT and need to get it replaced. Aside from that I'm keeping most of the same equipment. Might sell off my Dakota 20 GPS as I dont' use it anymore.

Not sure if I will be going to WY this year but we are planning a horseback hunt here in Nebraska with some of my neighbors. Plan to pack in and setup a camp this year instead of riding in and out each day like we normally do. We found a great spot with a spring to camp. Hopefully the weather will cooperate. Deer numbers are starting to rebound after the die off a few years ago.

Yes time is going by fast. I need to finish my hunting trailer that I bought earlier this year. Still need to buy a wall mounted heater, install the floor tie downs for my 2 quads and rewire it and mount 2 new lights.

CC how is the ankle doing?
Ankle is doing great.I was in to see the Dr. for my 6 month checkup and he was pleased. Only problem is he wants me to use some custom made orthotics in all my footwear. I picked them up Wednesday and started wearing them . I hr on day 1, 2 on 2 and so on. Today I have blisters on the inside of each of my big toes where it rubbed on the toe next to it. Got to call him on Monday. Ankle has almost no pain or swelling, now I just have to get back in shape. Started doing some long walking and gym work again.

Thanks for asking.

Glad to hear the ankle is doing well CC! It seems like just the other day the big game season was coming to a close and I was already looking forward to the following season. Now here we are, waiting for draw results and starting to make plans for the upcoming hunts! I have been keeping in shape while wandering the hills looking for sheds. I look forward to all the new experiences to come. Can't wait for all the stories and photos from all of you!

Me too. Just got a newer truck and spent a lot of time doing a few things to it. My old 99 SuperDuty 4x4 F350 Powerstroke that I bought new 17 years ago had almost 300, 000 on it and started to have small problems. Replaced it with a 2012 F350 4x4, diesel and life is good. I have to get out to the range and shoot my M/L , all I've been doing is target shooting. Hope you find some good sheds.
