The sad thing is that even with a month long season the success rate in the Santiam unit is less than 13% with less than 3% being four point or better.

Vacation time! Hunting for me is over this year, I did Deer and elk hunt on the weekends. Archery for elk nearly came together on a small bull at 27 yards but a tree got in the way. I did manage to kill a buck with my rifle which I haven?t done for quite some time. Hers a few pics from this year.

Have fun. I grew up in southern Or and can totally see all the changes you've talked about. About 8 years ago I was trying to plan a wilderness elk trip in an area that we used to hunt and when I called the biologist he told me not to even bother as the elk all moved out of the forest service land to private and dont go back anymore. I ve still got points but never put in anymore just go back for turkeys and waterfowl . Used to call Oregon home but now you couldn't pay me to move back. Maybe the state of Jefferson will come to be.

I thought this was cool, X marks the spot where I elk hunt. I found this 400? from where I killed my bull a couple years ago
