Season is fast approaching, I am ready to hit the mountains and get after some bulls for a few days. Heading in a few days before the opener, and going to hunt for 5 days. Are the bulls beginning to shed their velvet yet?

Velvet is coming off or off already. Wallows/water are being hit hard mid day due to the temps. Pretty solid pattern developing also with the moon phase. We packin on the 27th. Good luck to all!!

seen a lot of elk yesterday, young and mature bulls. most of them were still in velvet, some were starting to rub off. my wallows showed no sign of angry bull activity. that will change very, very soon though. the elk were in there, still in chill mode. no worries, so ready!

Been a little dry here in the SW lately. Havn't had much rain in the last 10 days. Still very green from a really wet year so far. Had our first night in the 40's (48) 2 nights ago. Back in the low 50's at night now. Forecast is for highs in the 80's for the next week.

Was in the high country last Sunday and still looks like spring. lots of flowers and lush grass everywhere. I'll start hunting on the 12th, opening of M/L season. Good luck to all you arrow hunters. Save one for me.

Was up in CO scouting for the opener last Saturday and saw a very nice 340 class bull we named Topper, that was clean of velvet. Headed up Thursday morning for 16 days. Will be my dads first archery hunt at 68. He's been shooting all summer, got in awesome shape biking and hiking, and I can't wait for him to have a bow in his hand with an elk at 30 yds.

Feed is so awesome this year, they should all be delicious.

Pulled cards on my cams yesterday. Animals and range look like they are in great shape. I can't wait for the opener. Packing in Friday.

I've seen quite a few bears during my scouting, so I bought a left over M/L bear tag. Just my luck, they will all probably disappear before M/L season starts...LOL!
I had a real close call with a big sow and a cub last year so I also picked up a bear tag yesterday. Although I don't understand why they don't start the season on the same day?

I can't wait to pack in Friday night and watch the sun rise over opening morning. My plan is to work up a long ridge, check a wallow I found last year and possibly sit over a seep I found around 10k. This seep is in dark timber and had a few beds around it two weeks ago so I'm hopeful that something will check it out. This to me seems like a good way to get into the area and hunt a couple days with minimal impact.
