75/751 4th season deer

4th seasons are the last deer season here in Colorado and the closest to the rut, which IMHO makes them one of the most desirable. The downside is the weather. If we get a lot of early snow, everything migrates down, which means into areas where there is lots of private land. Its a crapshoot no matter how you look at it. I know if it were me, I would not want to go into the area cold with no knowledge. It is a short season and you could spend a lot of time looking just to get familiar with it. The other thing is that a lot of the southern part of the unit is on the Southern Ute Reservation.
I've seen some monster bucks in this unit, but almost all were on private or Ute land. If I was putting in for this unit, I definately would spend some time during the summer looking around and learning a little about it. Hope this helps a little.

No way to know what the weather will do. If you do get out here, send me a PM and let me know. If I don't have a conflict, I might be able to help you out. I do know the unit some, even tho I don't hunt it.

Deer in 75 4th season will be on their winter grounds. I plan to hunt the unit just not sure which season. These deer migrate early. I was in there about three weeks ago, too much snow to do anything

Fourth in unit 75 Second in unit 78 and 3rd in unit 75, Thats the order as I understand it, since I only hunt unit 78 I may be missing something. How does Coloeado Cowboy see these units?

You won't like this, but I think hunting deer in the rut is lame. It's way too easy.

Don't know a lot about 78, but if I was applying for 75 and had the points, I'd roll the dice and stick with 4th season in 75.
As far as OT's comments on the rut, usually around here the rut usually does not start for deer until around Thanksgiving or later. This is several weeks AFTER the 4th season has closed. The only advantage in hunting deer this late is that a lot of the bigger bucks have already migrated down to their winter ranges. The other thing is that there are really limited numbers of these 4th season tags available.
Elk is a different story! If there were no seasons in their rut time frame, then we would probably have almost no archery hunters.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion. The ones who don't like these season, don't have to apply for the tags!
