Gents - I've never hunted speed goats but I've hunted lots of other big game. Brother and I have been buying WY points since deployment to Baghdad in 09. It's time to burn them (7).

I've done a little bit of research via MRS on my phone but I cannot seem to find it on the Eastman's site? Via my phone its not user friendly. Am I missing it on this site???

We are looking for a DIY hunt on public land where we can camp via wall tent, etc.

We are in good shape and willing to hike a few miles each day if needed.

If anyone is willing share any info on such a potential hunt please PM me or email me at: [email protected]

If you might be willing to point us in the right direction I thank you & God bless.

The areas south of Casper would be drawable with your points and have good public land access for hunting. Areas west of Saratoga might also be fun hunts. BLM for hunting and camping and maybe some fishing nearby.

Couldn't have said it better myself. If you're the benevolent type, you could even go Special and split your pts with a buddy to hunt some of those units in the 3, 3+ Special range.

I would start with last years MRS from the digital subscription and look at what took 6-7 pts last year for regular or special tag, whichever is your preference. That will really narrow your field. I'm not sure you can go wrong with any of those hunts with those points.

Good luck. I'm a little jealous.
yes on the dig sub

You have a shot at unit 92/96 in the special draw depending on point creep. I am one point behind you or I would put in for that group. Lots of goats, lots of public land, and good genetics.

Here are the top B&C counties for the last 5 years - Carbon 45, Fremont 26, Sweetwater 31. The last three years it has been Carbon 31, Fremont 11, Sweetwater 21. Based on that, you should head for Carbon or Sweetwater. Based on your points, you can draw any units in the regular draw except the top 8 but in the special draw you can draw all but 57, 58, 60, 61 and 62 type 1.

That leaves 51, 52, 53, 55, 56, 62, 63 and 108 in Carbon and 59, 64, 90, 92, 95, 96 and 112 in Sweetwater.

The dang checkerboard takes up most of the land in 55, 56 and 59, 96 and 108 and runs through everything else except 53 and 112, which are south of it. Areas 51, 52, 95 and 112 are not rated blue chip. That narrows it down to 53, 62 type 2, 64, 90, 92, 96.

Since the winter is problematic this year, wait until we see what spring brings and what the tag #s will be in those areas since the draw is not until the end of May. If the winter kill was bad, it will mean points needed will be higher than last year and you should look at the lower point units of the ones I mentioned and stick to the more expensive special draw.

If point creep looks like it will be bad or those two counties fared poorly this winter, look at 65, 66 and 67 in Fremont County.

In April, be checking with the local biologists and BLM guys in those areas to see how they think the herd is faring. Then, make your choice. It may be a good trophy year based on a whole lot of snowmelt really soaking the ground for a while. Good luck and thanks for your service.

I agree BuzzH. I would not base my choices solely on the MRS. Good thing we live amonst 'em. I know where I will be trying for a tag.

So for those of us that do not live amongst them, where else do you suggest we get our info? For me, MRS is one of many tools but from what I see there isn't much more comprehensive tools like it out there.
