Starting some research on this caliber.

Looking for any info from everyone that has experience with this.

Difference between 6.5 Creedmore ? (I have no intentions of getting a CM by the way)

Ballistics compared to 300 win mag?

Recoil w/o muzzle brake?

Ammo availability?

Anything else that would be worth knowing?

Thanks everyone

We had this same discussion over on another forum and came to the conclusion that the 6.5 PRC will do everything that a 6.5 Creed will and better. It would be best to compare it to the 6.5-284 Norma which is almost its ballistic twin.

The increase velocity of around 250 fps will put it up into the longer range kill capacity for animals up to and including elk. With a 200-yard zero, expect 6.5” of drop at 300 yards, 19” or so at 400 yards and 36" of drop out at 500. This is with a velocity of 2950 fps with a 143 grain bullet. Its ballistics are very close to a 300 Winchester mag with a 180 grain bullet out to 500 or so yards. As far as recoil I would imagine that it would be quite tolerable without a muzzle brake.

Recoil is just slightly more then the creedmoor. One of the guys I shoot with had one built with a 24" fluted bartlein 3b contour and no brake. Factory hornady ammo flew great but extreme spread was a little high. He shoots hand loads with it using 147 grain eldm bullets an reloder 26 powder. His speed is right around 3000 fps.
