Solid watertight boots: Sacking up for good footwear was a game changer for me. No more bad feet.
Solid shelter: I have basically gotten rid of anything that's considered 3-season. I have nothing but Mids and a 4 season worthy 3 pole tent.
In-Reach: This has made my home life 200% better.
The "do it all" packs: I know it isn't required to get the job done, but I love the simplicity of having everything I need to keep me alive and get the job done every time I hit the woods.
Trekking Poles: I never leave home without. Most of my shelters and tarps use them. I think I get double the miles with them vs without before I wear out.
Honorable Mention: AGC Bino Harness, Gaiters, GPS,

I hunt from my truck, so my list might be a little different:
InReach: I hunt alone, and have heard/read too many horror stories of people getting lost / hurt / etc. while in the field. This is one item I never leave the truck without. Period.
Garmin Rino GPS: Almost got lost turkey hunting while in high school. I had on only light weight pants and no coat...it was getting dark and cold. Never again. Another item I never leave the truck without.
Leica LRF 800 Rangefinder: I'm a horrible judge of distance, and although this unit is 15+ years old, it's always with me. Optics are great.
Waterproof/breathable outer layer: including gloves and hat. Even when no rain/snow is forecast, this comes with me. Cuts wind, keeps me warm.
Essentials: license, knife, first aid kit, game cleaning gloves, extra bullets, leatherman. These items are always in my blaze big game vest. Love the layout and pockets. Even has rear pocket and compression straps to hold clothing. Great for when I want to travel light and not take my day-pack.

I think the items I listed are more an essential item than gear. Gear for me is Range finder, GPS, light weight game bags, good boots and trekking poles. If I’m going overnight I add more.

knife! nothing I hate more then having to gnaw em open with my teeth ,when gutting.
tootbrush , in case I forgot my knife.
rope... to hang self when miss target.

toilet paper . sticks and rocks will get the job done but shore sucks to hike with monkey butt. I am not ashamed to say I know of what I speak

Most important on my last hunt was. #1 shelter i ran a seekoutside Redcliff with a stove. #2 Backpack mystery ranch Marshall. #3 Trekking poles. #4 water filter. #5 My pack lantern. The nights are long in November.

Plenty of obvious things to list but here are a few some guys don't think about;
Spare boot laces- really stinks when you break a lace and have to piece them together. Boots just don't feel right.
Baby wipes- as mentioned above- monkey butt can truly impact your hunt.
Spare belt - You won't miss it till you break one.
Tape for the end of your barrel to keep snow/rain out and a gun cleaning kit for when you forget the tape.
