I'm looking to buy a -40 degree sleeping bag for winter hunts up in Canada.

I know from looking at REI that they carry a Dark Star for $379.00, Marmot for $719.00 and an Inferno for $729.00.

I wanted to know if anyone has any suggestions for the best sleeping bag at the best pricing? is the $600.00-$800.00 range average?

My cold weather bag has always been Wiggy's. You might look into them. They are high quality and I have used them in some mighty chilly conditions. A little heavy and bulky though.

You don't need to spend all that money. You probably already have a good bag right now; just double up. I teach winter camping in NE Mn., and have slept comfortably to -20. A crew stayed out at -30 when I wasn't there a bit later in the year using this system. We don't typically stay in tents or use heaters, just Quinzees (snow dome) or under a tarp. A fairly large rectangular synthetic bag over a down mummy bag works well.
