For those of you hunting in SW Colorado, looks like rain and snow for opening weekend. In the 4 corners area rain ant lower elevations & snow in the mts starting Thursday. Be prepared for muddy roads, bring your chains.

Stay warm, dry and good luck!@

Thanks for the update CC, I am heading out to Gunnison on Friday. I am in Vail working today and have a little snow flying, don't think it will amount to much though.

I'm in parachute right now working and it's 40* and just a little cloud cover. I'm hoping for a good storm to before 4th season because we are going to be hunting in unit 33 low. But after looking at the weather I'm not to optimistic

SBluke,

No snow on the ground at all? My son will be in 42/421 for 4th cow.
No snow at all.
its hot and dry.
I was just at 9000' for second season and there was no snow. It rained last Monday.
Last snow up high was 2-3 weeks ago but has melted and dried up.

I just took a look at the weather forecast again. Here are some areas that are going to get rain: Cortez, Durango & Nucla starting Thursday afternoon thru Saturday evening. Snow forecast for Rico starting today thru Sat PM. Montrose Thursday PM thru Sat PM.
Lower elevations rain; above 9k feet snow.
Montrose & Nucla are north of us and they are supposed to get less moisture. This reflects the forecast for 4 corners area, the further north & east less or no moisture.

Units 72,73,74,711,70,71,75, 61,62 & 65.

I'm at 6500' just off of I-70 and it rained last night and partly cloudy today.

It does look like it snowed above 8000' but only a dusting and it is melting fast.

The 10 day forecast is for 50% chance of rain on Saturday the 5th and then sunny the whole next week.

Jim is just an hour away from me but I didn't get any weather at all. I am showing a 70% chance of rain on the 5th. I've got 67* right now and I'm about 5300'. Forecast says it will be in the mid 60's for the next 15 days.

Jim, thanks for the report. I've been looking at the Castle Peak webcam every morning wishing for some snow. All this warm weather doesn't bode well for my unit 44 hunt. I'm doubting if those muley bucks will be moving much at all. Only 3 days to the opener....

It has been cool in the mornings here in the valley and I am sure that at 8000+' elevation it is even cooler. Our highs are in the mid 60's and the lows are down to freezing so it could be a lot different up in the hills. The only problem is that the roads should be still fairly dry and access will be very good so you'll quite possibly have to get off of the road a ways to find the bucks. I haven't had a chance to get up onto the hills to see what is moving but I am sure that they are still fairly high but every year a few get taken down by the golf courses in the valleys.

Thanks Jim. I'm expecting they'll be spread far and wide due to the pressure...I'll be spending a lot of time behind the glass most likely. Then again I could have it all wrong since I've never hunted there before. Still can't decide where I want to set up my wall tent.

Oh, and I will be getting way off the roads. That's my usual SOP.

I just set up camp tonight, close to you, so same weather but different unit. I plan to go high with the temps as warm as they are and the need to get away from other guns and those danged ATVs.

Dangit.

I've got 77/78/771 4th season deer tag. I scouted last weekend, and only scouted the low areas, but it was slim pickens. I only saw one buck.

I was praying for snow so it might improve . Might be a tough hunt.

Depending on humidity, you can generally expect temps to be cooler by 3-5 degrees each 1,000 feet in elevation gain. It was 25 degrees this morning at 7,500 feet. That's cold enough to get some snow if we get precip on Saturday, which I think is now down to a 20% chance.

Just kinda gray here in Grand Junction most of the day today. I can see up on to the west side of Grand Mesa from my house and doesn't look like there's any weather going on up there either.

It's gonna get pretty cold tonight, 48 right now. Also the clouds lifted some this evening and the La Platas are covered with snow. Can see to Lizardhead & snow there too. Down here the snow should make for a good opening day tomorrow, any tracks you see will be fresh.
