Hi all, new member here. I own a bolt action 30-30, it is a Savage 340B.

I currently load 130 gr Sierra Pro Hunters over 34.5 gr of imr 3031

Main loadings was 38 gr of leverevoution with the same bullet.

On hogdons website, it shows that cfe223 for the 30-30.
It has perked my interest for sure. I would like to know if any of you folk use it for the 30-30.

I added a few pictures of what I am attempting to discuss.

30-30 is known for liking a lot of powders and pretty hard to find one that doesn't work ( 1" groups)
IMR3031 is what you will find all the old timers use.
These days H-4895 ........ BL-C2, Benchmark, IMR-4064, IMR-4895, H-322 are others.

That CFE223 I'm pretty sure is made for faster shooting guns....don't know if it you would benefit at all around 2400 speeds from a 30-30.....it will though not foul the barrel as much...that Im sure as its very clean ( touted for that and advertised that way)

Welcome to Eastman's Forum. Head on over to the New Members Section for an Intro. Again welcome. Lots of great people here.

Interesting. I haven't looked into the CFE 223 at all but I did happen to see it on the shelf the other day. I am curious to know if you hunt with the 130 grain what the terminal ballistics are. I love the 30-30 for a deer gun and have shot 150 and 170 grainers sitting in front of 3031 or 4895.
