I see the California Secretary of State has certified a ballot measure for the November ballot splitting California into 3 states....California, Northern California & Southern California. IMHO it has no chance of ever going into effect even if it is voted in. In the 1850 a measure splitting California into 2 states passed, but Congress let it die. Has to be introduced and passed.

As a 4th generation Californio who left when I retired and tuned 58, it is pretty sad to see what has happened to what was once a wonderful place to live. Sure glad I moved to SW Colorado 18 years ago.

Any chance we can just dig a ditch around it and shove it out to sea? (Eastmans forum members get a free 24 Hour notice Via PM prior to shovels hitting the dirt)

I would think the federal government would have to be involved in order to recognize another two states as being added to the Union, especially seeing as how it would triple California's representation in the Senate. We sure don't need that.

Congress has to approve it....if it passes. Fat chance.

First the voters have to pass it, then it goes to the state Legislature, then if it passes there it goes to Congress.

Don't hold your breath.

Lol, we'll need to split Texas into thirds to make up for it!

This proposed ballot measure is yet another colossal waste of money. If it were to pass in California, it would require Congressional approval, and those clowns cannot agree on anything! Texas is the only state that can divide itself into separate states (up to 3) without Congressional approval.

let's just split the nation and be done with it. conservatives get the north half , libbies can have the south half.

then we can have another civil war and the north can stomp the south again.

The way I have seen the map drawn up, northern california (san fransisco), california (Las Angeles), and southern california (San Diego, Orange county) I believe Southern California would be a toss up state. Of course the others would be solid blue.

The venture capitalist that has funded this activity has stated that it was time for the democrats to get dirty and this was a way to get 2-4 additional senators. Seems like a big waste of money to me.
