Finally got out to do some hunting this year. I shot a nice fat cow elk at 450 yards. I was resting over a large downed log at the top of the first picture where the live trees are by themselves. It was like shooting off a benchrest and I had no wind to deal with! She was facing me when I shot and I held the 450 yard hash mark in the B&C reticle on the Leupold scope right in the center of her chest and that is exactly where I hit. She went about 30 feet and reared up on her back legs and fell over backwards and was done. The 140 gr. Nosler Partition at 3230 fps performed as you would expect a Partition to which was perfect as well! I was pretty tickled and it's the first animal with the rifle I had built. It's a Winchester Classic Sporter Model 70 I had barreled and tricked out for the 280 AI. I could not be happier!

Took a bad tumble in the snow getting down to her and only about 30 yards from her. Stepped on a branch under the snow and my feet went right and my upper body with a 25 pound pack on my back and rifle in my hands went left. I lit on a stump which was a couple inches under the snow hidden and was say 12" tall and about 6" in diameter. All of the weight hit on my lower left rib area on this stump. OUCH! I ended up with a couple broken ribs and some bruised ribs. The pack out the next day with elk was something! I had a front shoulder, both back straps, and both tenderloins in my pack and my buddy had the other front shoulder. We both pulled a rear quarter behind us down a steep ridge about 3/4 of a mile to the bottom. The we loaded everything on a large black sled I have and pulled her out about 3 miles to the truck. Thanks goodness another buddy came in with the sled to help us!

I went to the doctor and he said they are in place and you can go hunting some more. He did give me some pain pills which helped out a bunch when I went back out hunting! I shot a real nice fat 4pt whitetail at 200 yards with my .280 AI again. One shot right behind the shoulder and he dropped at the shot. The 140 gr. Partition at 3230 fps performed perfectly once again. He wasn't a huge buck, but I could not be happier and I have some great meat in the freezer. I turned the buck into jerky and man that stuff is good. It is going fast because it's nice to share, and everyone else thinks it's the cats meow also! Hope everyone else is having a great fall!

The guy who built this for me does excellent work and I can't say enough about the care and precision he does in his work. Bob Petersen Precision Rifles in Missoula Montana.

Great job, congratulations. You're tougher than me for sure. I wouldn't want to be packing an elk when I had bruised and broken ribs, ouch is right!!

I shoot 150gr partitions in my 280 & it's deadly accurate. Congrats on a great hunt and I also know what it's like to break ribs, ouch!
