.270 hands down. I've personally taken everything from prairie dogs to bull elk with that caliber and it has worked flawlessly. Now that said, if you're interested in something other than one of those two, I would get a .30 cal of some sort. You can't go wrong with a good .30-06. As for myself, I am going to try a .300 WSM this fall.
Prarie dogs with a 270!!! I like your style:)

I would lean toward the 270 myself. Although I got my kid a 7mm-08 and I'm really impressed with it. The 270 you can hunt pretty much any large game with it.

another +1 for .270. I'm a personally a fan of ruger .270s. Remington core-loks ether 130 or 150grains or I love my nosler partition handloads. I've taken deer, elk, and antelope with them.

I shoot the 270 WSM. Good for everything from elk on down. Great ballistics, flat shooting and gaining popularity very fast. Just can't beat it. Plenty of ammo combinations available. Try the Nosler Custom ammo with ballistic tips for antelope and the Accubond for bigger stuff.

The 270 shooting hornady superformance 130 grain bullet. This ammo shoots really flat and bucks the wind far better than the 243. 3200 fps this comes in really handy @400 plus yards. Antelope have the most amazing eyesight long shots are common
