Just because there is more technology doesnt mean it is any better. My 65 ford will get me to town and back just as good as a new truck with every option would. A over 85 year old 270 win will kill an elk just as dead as a new 300 RUM. Just because its newer doesnt mean it can do the job any better.
Inside of reasonable ranges they will kill mice to moose as good as anything out there. Not arguing that... With most of todays bullets we are splitting hairs to see differences. They all have different marketing campaigns and strategies to sell their bullets. The competition has forced companies to develop species perfect ammunition. This leads to much testing for us to look at. I can't find any tests on line where the Remington's lead any of the test categories- There are bullets that edge them out in velocity, penetration, ballistics, weight retention, and so on. They do perform well in most of the tests out there.... They are a good bullet.... but not the "best" when compared to what is available in todays market.

Whatever you shoot, shoot it well. Bullet placement is key to everything. Doesn't matter if you use a .243 or a .458...a bad shot is a bad shot. Hit them where it counts with any legal caliber and their dead. Too many people believe that because it says "magnum" that anytime they pull the trigger animals drop over dead. The .270 has killed a heck of a lot of elk and will continue to do so.

Glad it was said again. See post 3. Everyone needs to keep this in mind.

Every once in a while you'll experience the unexplainable on shot placement and bullet performance. I shot a 200lb hog with a 150gr partition (270wby) and hit him solid square in the shoulder. For whatever reason the bullet deflected and went out the top of its back. I've also shot a deer with 120gr PEP (25-06) at 150yds with absolutely nothing between me and that deer. He had 5 entrance holes and 1 exit.
