25-06 Powders

A year ago I purchased a Weatherby Vanguard in 25-06. At that time I built up some loads using RL22 and a Barnes 115 grain TSX bullet. Everything went well and it was shooting moa groups all day. Now I am going to switch to a Barnes 100 grain TTSX bullet and looking over some loads I have seen where some are recommending H4350 or IMR 4831. Lucky me I have both of those other powders.

So, I'm not asking for anyone load data since I like to build that up by myself but have any of you had good results with any of those powders and a 100 grain bullet? The mud at my range is drying up and I need to get out there and sight in the new scope I put on the rifle and burn some powder.

Hi Jim: My rifle seems to love IMR 4831. Very accurate and consistent. I have not tried a 100gr. bullet as the 110 Accubond is my choice of which I've had great results. I load 52.0 gr. with a standard rifle primer for a vel. of 3175fps in a 23" barrel.

My Ruger M77, 25-06 likes 4831 SC better than standard 4831.

Looks like I'll have to play around with the 4831 some in the next week or so.

4831 SC works well with with mine for a couple different bullets. The 4350's gave decent results, but 4831 was better in both accuracy and velocity with my rifle. Additionally, H1000 is exceptional in my rifle with the 115gr Berger.

I got the best groups out of my Sako A5 with 100gr Sierra spitzer bullets over both RL-22 and 4831 SC. I did end up trading off some accuracy for a heavier 117gr bullet for hunting, though. I honestly couldn't tell the difference in performance (accuracy) between RL-22 and 4831SC but I never chrono'd either.

My problem is that I live in a area that is still powder dry. There are very few stores that carry any and what they do carry is expensive. I would love to try some H4831 SC but it is not to be found in 3 different towns within 30 miles of me so I'll have to settle for the IMR4831 and RL22, and perhaps try a few rounds with H4350.

I was even down in Denver on Tuesday and there was very little powder to be found, at least the types that I like to shoot.

Not yet, I have been taking a few trips to Denver lately for Dr appointments so I have been checking the shops are there. I might need to head down and see what Timberline has in stock.

I may have to stick with with I have to work with right now. I know that RL22 was shooting real nice with the 115 grain bullets so it should do the same with the 100's, I'll find out. If not I have enough of other types that I can play around a little.

RL22 worked well for me too, especially in my .257 Wby. If I couldn't get any 4831SC, I would be using it.

52 grains of Reliant 22 with 100 grain Sierra 1620 spitzer is my most accurate load in a Savage LRH. Been needing to work up a load with either a 117 or 120 bullet.

My wife's rifle used IMR4350 with 120 gr. Partitions.

I have had very good results with Vihtavouri N160, it is designed for large case capacity and smaller diameter light bullets. Perfect for 243 and 25-06. Currently my Cooper is giving me .30 inch groups at 100 yards with 100 gr. Barnes TTSX

RL 19 for 85 + 87g bullets. IMR 4350 for the 100g pill. I fiddled around with the 117 + 120g stuff a little,but did the majority of my deer hunting with the 100g.

RL22 worked well for me too, especially in my .257 Wby. If I couldn't get any 4831SC, I would be using it.

RL 22 is all I have ever used in my 257 wby so I don't have anything to compare it to but also never had a reason to switch.
