There has been some real slammers taken. I love this thread every year. I hope to post some here this year too but won't be till November.

I am leaving on Sept. 1st for a solo MZL deer hunt in Colorado. That will put me off the grid for a while, but hope that I can contribute when I get back.

I haven't hunted much in the past 10 years. Kids sports and Nebraska football season tickets ate up much of my fall. And coached middle school football with my brother for a few years.

Youngest daughter is a senior this year...her last year playing HS softball. Season runs through mid October, they are the defending state champions, and it's already shaping up to be a great year. I will certainly miss watching her play (already miss watching her older sister play...she graduated last spring).

I'm in the early stages of planning a Muley hunt for fall 2018...can't wait! Picked up new nocs last fall, replacing my 20+ year old Cabela's boots this fall, and hopefully getting an Outdoorsman tripod. Everything else should be good to go. I will again chase Mule deer in Nebraska's sandhills for rifle season. Turning 50 next month. Good times!

That's exciting! I turned 50 last October. I think the older we get the better it gets. Why? because we are defying the odds. I live in southern California where there is limited access and heavy pressure from hikers and bikers to fellow hunters and horse riders. I love strapping on the pack and getting 5-10 miles up away from everyone. I tell myself each year that I didn't remember my Dad and grandparents climbing the hills at My age. As each season passes you really appreciate the time in the field a lot more. Good luck to you!!

Roemer, thats great! I get to take my grandparents hunting this year for deer and elk later. I am expecting a really fun trip. If they are successful it will just make it so much better. Congratulations to your dad.

I don't know why my pics have been posting sideways?? I wish I would of had my camera with me on this day, it was an awesome day. Being able to use my dog was pretty awesome for me. That dog is my buddy and I've learned to just trust him. I've gotten some nasty private messages about using my dog. Things like "your not a true hunter" your tracking skills suck" "your dog needs shot". Ha I just laugh them off, I've hunted my ass off this year and on this day it just played out. For the record, I did not use the the dog to hunt, I lost blood trail and couldn't find the deer anywhere!. Its a sickening feeling that is say every hunter has been through. I drove home and picked up shadow and told him to find the bone, he loves deer. He loves finding antlers. Once his nose caught wind of the blood where I shot the buck my dog when nuts, that's how I found my arrow in the tall tall grass. Seeing the arrow I knew that deer was dead somewhere. Ended up finding it way further out than I would have looked and in a diff direction.

I say kudos to you for using the dog. many would have just given up. at least you went the extra mile and it paid off for you.

Ya, SD just legalized using dogs for tracking wounded big game. Our next dog will be trained to shed hunt and track for sure.

ETA: In large part because of your experience, Ivorytip.

I say screw those guys! Good for you for bringing your dog to help you track your buck. You did your job and he did his. The deer was found, the meat was salvaged, and you have the antlers to adorn your wall to remind you of those good times. I think tracking dogs for big game should be legal everywhere.

That a slammer buck too! Congratulations.

Great job Ivorytip and great recovery! I've sure appreciated my Lab when he recovers pheasants and chukar I may never have found without him! I've never had anyone gripe about that!
Nice buck too!!

Congrats on the success so far guys! Hopefully I can contribute in November!

What site are you all using to post photos? I used to use photobucket, but I'm not paying them just to post pictures.
