So my bud and I did a diy float hunt in Alaska this September. OTC tag. We used willow air to drop us off and pick us up. We got dropped off on sept 5th and picked up on sept 16. Fun tough adventure that was filled with lots of adversity, fun and good times. We worked our asses off and the chores never ended. We both got moose at the end of the trip. Which is good, because on float hunts you break camp and reset up camp constantly and you can not leave the meat in the boat. We where stuck in the tipi due to heavy rain for 2 days, and the river rose about 6 feet. The bull magnet works, so does the luxury lite cot from thermarest. The kifaru 8man tipi and wood stove combo are awesome.
Mcgrath, Alaska is it's own unique village. All in all, just a great trip. If you do need to charter a flight in Alaska, Alaska air transit is a great company. Hotel McGrath in Mcgrath is another great company that works with you.
The river it self was a very easy river, class c I called it. For class complacency. however with the river swelling to flood stage, I was glad I had lots of river expierence. We had one very late night on the river, due to not being able to find a gravel bar to camp on. Floating in the pitch dark is not a very fun expierence. But we got er done and got 2 nice respectable representatives of the species. 120 miles of floating
