One of the most interesting things is that deer and antelope apps are now due on May 31. I like that from the standpoint that several draw results are out before you have to spend the money to apply. On the other hand it shortens the date to modify a few days, which used to run until about June 3. Those are usually pretty critical days with the draw results from several states typically posting in late May/ early June.

Thank you for the information Umpqua hunter. Been busy trying to keep traps running with all the snow. Just about to show my lack of heart and trip everything. Almost didn't bother to get on here assuming it would be more flaming and holeyer than though types, Then blam there is a gem to be had. Just noticed you are sheep hunting fool. That is so cool that you have accomplished such a feat for sure. The sheep Gods have a beam of light on you.

Yes sir, I never meant to sound like he was a sheep God and nothing else, that was all I picked up on by the ending of all his messages. not sure what you call the tags attached to all messages. He seems to have pride in the fact that he has done what so few have been able to do. Just wanted him to know I was in awe of such a feat. Sorry if I tinkled on your campfire TG... I hope I stick around long enough to get to know all you dedicated folks and learn from you all.

No tinkling on any campfires allowed around here, LOL! I knew what you meant and that is definitely quite a feat when most avid folks don't even get to go on one sheep hunt. I was just passing along the fact that UH knows a lot more than just sheep and if you stay around a while you'll see exactly what I mean!!!

I've just been super blessed.....BY God! :)

Competition for sheep tags has gotten brutal the past 10 years, it's hard to know what to tell a new guy wanting to hunt them. With point systems now, I tend to direct them to save for a sure thing in Alaska.

There is a lot of great advice on here. Some of the members are the best I know of in certain areas, better than many of the "pros" out there. For example Topgun is my go-to guy on Central Wyoming.

Glad you are on here Wyheadhunter!

Thanks guys, I was lucky enough to harvest a barely 3/4 curl ram here in Wyoming in area 4, ten years ago or so. It took 30 years of applying to get the tag then with allot of help harvested on day 17. Have done a little helping when 3 of my friends have drawn as well. Sheep are for sure one of the hardest critters that I have had the pleasure of chasing around. I see some sheep up in the country I trap from time to time and they are always so majestic. To bad it is one of the hardest areas in the state to draw ha ha. Just as well as I don't have the testicular fortitude to keep up anymore. Thanks again for the thread, information, and talk.

I thought they usually decided they quota after the NR deadline anyway or maybe that is just elk
They usually put out the proposed quotas around the first of April sometime. This year, they pushed back the NR application deadline to coincide with the R application period so you'll have till the end of May (roughly) to apply.

Elk is the only application period that closes and has a modify/withdraw period before the final quotas are set. The final deer and antelope quotas are always set and in print on the G&F website well before the modify/withdraw dates so it's best to apply for something and then you can change it up to that final date if tag cuts or something else interferes with your plans. You just have to stay in the same draw category and can't move from Regular to special or vice versa. The NR application date was lengthened merely to match the resident dates and with everything being applied for online now they don't need a lot of time like they used to in order to prepare for the draws.

I saw a guy burn max points on a archery only wyoming hunt where he was the only applicant. Serious. Look at 2014 draw odds. I was blown away.
I'd believe it without looking, LOL! I see a lot of draws where guys have burned a number of PPs for a Region deer tag that always has a lot of leftovers every year.
