After only seeing one bear in the past 3 years, things changed a bit this season and after looking at my 21st bear, I could wait no longer. At 320 yards I sent one.

The bear was hit hard and after a short blood trail, I found him near a creek bottom:

Just as I was half way done quartering up the bear, the storm rolled in. This picture is just before the blizzard hit and with winds near 50mph, my iPhone froze up moments after:

Two weeks prior I had the pleasure of taking my 15 year old cousin out for his first hunt. As a gift for earning his Eagle Scout, his parents flew him from Colorado to California to hit the backcountry with me. He wanted an adventure and I did my best to deliver, at 80 yards he rolled the bear 3 times when the 270 hit'em.

We backed out and waited till morning to take up the trail. After 2 hours and an extremely poor blood trail, I stepped on top of a log to view the scrub oak and surrounding trails. A short 3 yards away and just as I saw the bear, he saw me. Another round and he was down for good.

My cousins first hunt provided an incredible bear and adventure:

10+ years old and soon to be a shoulder mount. The 3 hour hike out topped off a great 3 days together:

A few weeks before he arrived I headed out solo for the rifle opener and spotted my first buck of the year. As I got prone and found the buck in my scope, he was locking antlers with another. At the shot he dropped and never moved:

He wasn't big, but after not seeing a buck all archery season and with 2 tags, I wasn't real picky:

I knew the pack out wasn't going to be fun so I hung the meat and began to debone it:

Just before I started back to the truck with full camp and deer:
