Are those quotas final?? Seems as though last year, there was some confusion between Eastmans, HF and IDGF on some quotas in the Owyhee area.

All this talk of big changes to the elk plan and it looks the same unless I missed something?

They didn't really change anything. The main thing they focused on was trying to control predators better so the elk herds could come back. As of right now there is no big changes and they are thinking of possible having another elk tag option in the future.

They wasted a lot of time and money on research and gathering feedback if you ask me.

5 wolf tags statewide? Big deal...less than 1% probably fill 2 as it is.

Would have been nice to see something new.

Kinda makes me think the elk herd is a little worse off than they care to admit.

Not sure about whitetails but alot of general tags have caps on them but very few if any sell out any more.
All the non-resident tags have caps. I think they have only sold a dozen non-resident whitetail tags the last couple years.

There are some elk zones that get capped for residents also.

Idaho very rarely runs out of deer tags. I am usually picking up a nonresident resident deer tag in November.

You can actually get 2 NR deer tags in Idaho. Both can be antlered, it can be a general and whitetail or general and general. One can only be purchased after like August 28th or something like that. We use to do this when we hunted Idaho. And they never run out of General tags anymore. There was something like 7,000 when the majority of the hunts closed the 24th of Oct. last year.

I was looking at elk last night and there are less and less tags sold every year. I forget the numbers but sales have dropped alot over the last 5 years. Ever since they raised the price they have not sold out and with the damage the wolves have done it gets worse every year.

I remember when you had to be standing in line on the 30th of December to get an elk tag for the Middle Fork or Selway zones!! Now you could pick one up the day you leave for the hunt:)

we flew in there on a elk hunt a few years ago, selway area, had an opertunity for a cheap fly in fly out so we took it. there was a reason it was so cheap. i remember dad allways told me what an amazing elk hunt it offered back in the day. we seen one small bull on the 5 days in there and we was a zip code away, after the 3rd day of seeing nothing but wolf tracks we were greatfull we brought out telescopic fishing poles and we ended up having a great time eating those high mountain lake cutthroats. what perfect and beautifull country it is though, its a shame its turned out how it has, hopefully it will rebound.
