Utahs draw process is open now. Nevada opens in a month or two. The mrs sections in the EHJ and EBJ give the closing dates of all the draws. Just to let you know utah has a limited entry draw and a general deer draw. You can put in for both though.

Thanks for the info everyone. been thumbing through the draw odds and rates. I see a lot of low success rates- is it like other states where people don't try too hard and the %30 are the real hunters?

Also anyone know NV's laws on atvs? Looks like I see some Jeep trails and stuff. I assume it would be legal to take one on those, at least to get a little head start in from of everyone else?

Probably just some heavy foot trails I was looking at then. I saw in another forum a guy mention jeep trails in the rubys. Thanks for the info. Anyone hunted around there that can say if August requires 4x4 or not. Id rather take my SUV but its a sissy 2wd vehicle!

If you're thinking you can drive to deer in the Ruby's you are terribly mistaken. Archery in the Ruby's requires some serious boot leather if you want a nice buck.

No mistake made there. I just meant getting to the area. Where I went in Wyoming last year was perfectly dry but the were areas we would've been SOL without 4x4.

My expectations are miles and miles to get to a good basin and then miles to the next coupled with 1000's of feet of incline. With spotty deer sightings if hunting the ruby mountains.

Is that realistic?

I've got 10 days of hunting between UT and NV IF I draw. planning on spending more time in NV packing way in and living out of a pack so I can get a little deeper each day if needed

I didnt know they made 2wd SUV's! Trade that thing in ASAP! HAHA! Where I hunted NV last year I left my 4wheeler at home because I didnt see anywhere when I was scouting I wanted to go that I couldnt get to with my 4X4, but I went alot of places I couldnt have gone without 4 wheel drive.

Dude I don't even want to talk about it. Its a freakin Toyota 4 runner. I got a killer deal on it even for being a 2wd but honestly I kinda assumed it it was 4x4 before I drove hours to go buy it. I had no clue they made 2x4 4 runners. it gets great gas mileage and will go most places.

Its got the holes in the hub for the 4wd too everything is there except the transfer...smh.

You got a great deal on it so you can trade it on a 4x4 4runner and still come out on the deal! Just because you drove hours didnt mean you had to buy it. I just drove a 1000 extra miles looking at Dodge Durangos on a trip to ND. Left all the ones there I found on the net to look at and stumbled into the right one when I was 75 miles from home. Went back and bought it the next day! Its like hunting. Dont shoot the first 1 you see!!

Haha copy that! it was still a good deal. and I'm known to horse trade a bit. ;-) not sure whats worse though...a 2wd 4runner or a 4wd Durango! yikes! ;-) We had a 2010 (I think) Durango at my old PD. I dreaded every shift I was assigned to that thing

What you might want to consider is a rear locker, either full-time or selective. You will be surprised what locking in power to both back wheels will do. With good tires on dry terrain, you are around 90% as capable as a regular 4wd. If you go with a manual version, 350-450 + installation, selective ones are double that or more. A local 4x4 shop could give you some good ideas.
