Has anyone here gone into SD without knowing the area aside from aerial photos and successfully taken antelope? I'm from out of state and see there's so much available public land and was debating between a guide or DIY. If there's any tips that can be passed along, I'd appreciate it.

Yes I have. Last I was there, the population on the west side, from the Spearfish ish area north to the border, and west of the river, was very good. No different than any other public antelope hunting. Size was more MT like than WY like. The one caviot is there was a very bad die off in much of SD a few years back. No idea if it has recovered or not. There maybe some members in the area who can give you a better idea of things. Find fairly open public land with water...hunt away. Have not been out there for 3 seasons, but hunted SD regularly the 12 prior years in the general area I mentioned.

I archery hunted the north west corner about 10 years ago. Shot a good antelope on a DIY public land hunt. some private but plenty of public to make a fun hunt!
