173 early rifle for my 16 year old.

My 16 year old son drew the early 171-173 rifle tag. This is his first out of state hunting experience and he's really stoked. We spent the last few days scouting the southern end of unit 173 around and in the arc dome wilderness area. I was wondering if anyone has hunted that unit for early rifle and know what kind of hunting pressure to expect in that area. We found some promising hunt areas but unsure how many people will be doing the same. Thanks

I haven't hunted there but there will be plenty of hunters in that area. It's a pretty popular place.

I've hunted that area several times. There is a pretty significant amount of people on most of the major trails in that zone, but it is possible to get away from the crowds. I'd advise going just a bit further than most people who hike in for the day(3-4 miles from any trailhead)... You'll immediately eliminate about half of the numbers, and once you get back in a ways the country is big enough that you can have a basin all to yourself. There are always some groups packed in on horseback, but it's easy to spot them and know where they're heading for the day. Start high, like way high!
