Just heard that 12 wolves were legally harvested by Wyoming hunters after 3 years of non hunting them. Good to know they're starting to put them down.

Seems like more needs to be done. In Idaho, while archery deer hunting this past weekend, I came across a hunter who said he killed 5 wolves this year, where I was hunting. This made a lot sense, since the deer and elk sign was scarce. Predator calling with wolf howling was his method of hunting. A friend of his had downed 3 so far. 2 of the wolves he killed was on a depredation hunt.

Getting a wolf is on my bucket list, heck with elk and deer, at least between seasons.

On my list as well, I do a lot of coyote call'n in n/e cali and western nevada but have never tried to call wolves.. It would be sweet if someone with first hand calling experience would chime in with some details and tips for call'n wolves.

go where there are wolves.that is the hardest part ,if they ain't there they ain't gonna come.
do what you do when calling coyotes.
I've only called in one and it was before there was a season to shoot them but rabbit distress works

This is good to hear, in idaho bear hunting last spring there was wolf sign everywhere. Tracks, and scat on lots of the logging roads we were on. Had a wolf pass our bait station right before we got there. That would have been neat getting there as the wolf was crossing my bait station since I had a tag. If I didn't have a tag I would imagine he would have been there.

Any one looking to help with wolves needs to check out the Foundation for Wildlife Management. Whether you are willing to hunt/trap them or help financially these guys are making a difference. They started after realizing the cost of trapping knowing that trapping is the only way we can make a consistant dent in their numbers. They are reimbursing costs accrued wolf hunting/trapping in Idaho today. They are getting bigger all the time and are working towards being in surrounding states soon. Most of the guys willing to trap couldn't afford it. F4WM are endorsed by the RMEF and Idaho F&G.

Very cool. Thanks for the info. I'll look this foundation up.

Hopefully more states will allow hunting of these wolves.
