Well i hunted with another guy yesterday who was also hunting solo. We ran into another hunter who said he saw some elk east of the bruneau river. We decided to head over there yesterday after noon. We ended up finding about 400 head of elk split into 4 or 5 groups. Late yesterday afternoon we got on a small herd and my partner killed a cow and i killed a pretty big calf. When i shot it looked like a small cow but when we walked up to them we were surprised to see it was a calf. I kind of feel bad about harvesting a calf but i am beyond excited to be bringing home some meat.

I want to thank everybody that has weighed in with advice and pointers, it was very much appreciated. I just hope i can return the favor someday. Sorry no pics, it was late in the afternoon so we decided to just get to work and get it done.

They are off of a quad trail up the pole shack road east of the bruneau river; I think the road may also be called wickiup. If you find them they are yours!
