So I got extremely lucky and drew a bull tag. I hunted Merritt Mtn. last year and shot a cow, but we only saw 3 elk after hunting for 5 days. I only saw 1 4x4 bull and many, many hunters. Anywhere you guys know of to get away from the crowd? I was thinking of trying Copper Mtn. This is my first bull tag, any tips on scouting? I want to make sure I do everything I can to get this bull. Thanks

Congrats on the tag, that's a great area.
Last time I was on Copper mountain a few years ago there was a lot of elk sign on the top and on the west side. On the west side there are draws with black timber that are probably good bedding areas.
I will tell you it's a long haul to any road from the top, either to the west or east.

Last year I had a cow tag same area. On top of copper mountain on the west side, there were several hundred head of Elk with several bulls and satellite's, this was an easy 3000 foot climb over 2 miles to get there from where I could get as close as I could with my ranger. To get to the west side you can go in through the Prunty Ranch access along the Bruneau river. About 4 miles north of Charleston Reservoir. Copper basin also has Elk however there were sheep in there last year and Elk do not like sheep. Also saw a real nice bull 340"+ north of Merritt Mountain just west of Alder and Hicks mountain. Good luck and God bless
